Garry
Marshall Date
Of Birth: November 13, 1934
Garry Marshall is one of the best known
directors out there, and not just for his films;
Garry is the genious behind the classic
television series The Odd Couple, Happy Days,
Laverne & Shirley (which starred his
sister Penny), and Mork and Mindy.
Garrys film credits have
spawned from such 80's classics as The
Flamingo Kid, to the tear jerker Beaches
and the hit comedy Pretty Woman
which helped launch Julia Roberts into Super
Stardom.
Garrys other directing credits
include, Young Doctors In Love, Nothing In
Common, Exit To Eden, Frankie and Johnny,
Overboard, Dear God, The Other Sister, Runaway
Bride (of course), and the current family
hit The Princess
Diaries starring
newcommer Anne Hathaway (who's only prior
starring role was on the short lived FOX series Get
Real)
Not only an accomplished
director, Garry has also acted in many roles most
notably as the head of CBS on Murphy Brown from
1994 until the series ended it's run in 1998. He
also appeared in his sister Pennys film A
League of The Own and the casino manager
whom Albert Brooks begs for his money back in the
comedy Lost in America. Garry has
appeared in almost every one of his films in
cameo roles, from a janitor to a ballplayer you
can't miss him.
Garry has been happily married
to nurse Barbara Sue Wells, whom he thanks at the
end of every one of his films, since March 1963.
His three children, Lori, Kathleen and Scott have
all appeared in at least one of their fathers
films, and Scott has been the Assitant Director
on three (Dear God, Runaway Bride
and The Princess Diaries) Kathleens
larger roles have been in Runaway Bride
as Cousin Cindy and The Princess Diaries
as Charlotte; she is a very talented actress who
has also appeared on stage and films not directed
by her father
Garry is probably most known
for using the same people in his films, but you
have to admit that it's nice to see a familiar
face. Having the same waiter from Pretty
Woman (Allan Kent remember the snail:)
appear in The Princess Diaries AS a
waiter who has the same line "It happens all
the time" is priceless to fans like myself.
I
had the privledge of meeting Garry in 1995 at a
book signing for his auto biography. He was a
very sweet man to me and it was an expirience I
will never forget.
You can order his
book from Amazon.com or by clicking this link. I
highly recommend it.
